Safer heat exchanger lifting with the Festec® Handy Hook During a major shutdown at Shell Rotterdam, Hoist International supplied a compact lifting solution for heat exchanger components—a safer, damage-free alternative to traditional methods.
The challenge
Heat exchanger components such as floating heads and pressure rings often have no fixed lifting points. Using stud bolts and slings as an unsafe workaround can cause injuries, damaged gaskets, misalignment and costly downtime.
The vision
The goal was to lift and position components safely while helping protect critical surfaces. The solution needed to be compact, precise and suitable for confined and ATEX-zoned areas.
The solution
Hoist International supplied multiple Festec® Handy Hooks, designed to lift components without integrated lifting eyes. The hooks fit directly into existing bolt holes, while hinged arms and safety pins prevent slipping and support precise positioning.
Each tool is tested at twice the WLL, certified for lifting and suitable for ATEX environments.
The result
The components were lifted and repositioned with full control and no injuries or damage to sensitive surfaces.
Installation quality was maintained, allowing a smooth restart without costly interruptions.
